Legal Aid Chicago: Free civil legal services for people living in poverty in Cook County. Contact their Client Screening Unit at 312-341-1070.[5] You can also apply online or call for intake. Walk-ins and email requests are not accepted.[7]

Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS): Free legal aid for low-income residents of Cook County on issues like adoption, divorce, landlord disputes, wills, and more. Appointments are required. Call 312-332-1624 to schedule, or visit various clinic locations (evenings and weekends) as listed on their website.[4] Additional support and general information can be found via the main CVLS site.[8]

Legal Aid Society (Metropolitan Family Services): Call the voice message hotline at 312-986-4105 at any time and leave your name and phone number for a call back by intake specialists.[3]

Legal Council for Health Justice: Specializes in family law, discrimination, public benefits, and more. Contact them at 312-427-8990, fax 312-427-8419, or email info@legalcouncil.org. Their office is located at 17 N. State St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60602. Service hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.[1]

Life Span Center for Legal Services and Advocacy: Addresses domestic violence, divorce, and custody in Cook County. Intake by phone only at 312-408-1210 between 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; no walk-ins accepted. Located at 70 E Lake St., Suite 600, Chicago, IL 60601, or via email at life-span@life-span.org.[1]

Greater Chicago Legal Clinic: Handles issues such as bankruptcy, guardianship, and immigration. 24-hour intake line at 312-726-2938; Parentage & Child Support Issues line at 312-796-3070. Located at 17 North State Street, Suite 1710, Chicago, IL 60602.[1]

Illinois Legal Aid Online: Use the “Get Legal Help” tool to find the best available legal aid resource in Illinois, including self-help centers and location-specific support.[2]

Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt: For eviction or unpaid debt issues, contact at 855-956-5763 or visit their website.[6]

CARPLS Legal Aid: For other civil legal issues, call 312-738-9200.[6]
