To change your SARS contact details, you can typically use the SARS eFiling platform or update them directly from the SARS website homepage.[3] Taxpayers can now update their security contact details—such as cell phone number and email address—from the pre-login option on the SARS website using facial biometric authentication for verification.[4] This makes it possible to update your details even if you cannot log in, as long as you are a registered eFiler who is a South African citizen.[5]

To update SARS contact details from the eFiling login screen:

  • Go to the SARS eFiling website.
  • On the login page, click on Update Contact Details.
  • Complete your personal details (full name and South African ID number) and follow the on-screen biometric instructions.
  • Once verified, capture your updated contact details and select your preferred contact method.
  • Submit the OTP (one-time pin) sent to your new contact method to confirm the update.[5][7]

If you are logged into eFiling and want to update details:

For changes such as bank details, addresses, or name changes, log in to your eFiling profile, navigate to Home → User → Maintain SARS Registered Details, and follow the prompts. Note that some changes may require SARS consultant review and could take up to 21 business days to be actioned.[1][3]

Some details, such as identity number, passport number, or registration number changes, require you to visit a SARS branch in person.[3]
