Who qualifies for road accident funds?

You can claim from the RAF if:

you’re a child, spouse or other person who was dependent on the income of a person killed in an accident; for more information, see our article on claiming for someone deceased. you’re a close relative of the deceased and paid for this person’s funeral.

How much do road accident fund pay?

This allows the RAF to divide – or apportion – the compensation as a percentage of blame. If, for example, you and another driver were equally to blame for an accident, you will be paid half of your damages. If you were 60% to blame, you’ll receive 40% of the compensation

How long after an accident can you claim from Road Accident Fund South Africa?

A claim must be lodged by the claimant within three years from the date of the accident or from the date on which the claim arose. This does not apply to a claim by a child under the age of 18 years old. Once a child turns 18 years old, s/he has three years to lodge a claim with the RAF.
