Besides the switchboard and general mailbox, NMU publishes lines and mailboxes for individual offices, listed above. The Registrar’s office is in the Governance Administration Building on Second Avenue Campus. Other offices are reached through the staff and department directory on its site, which searches by name, faculty, school, department, institute, centre or unit. NMU does not publish faculty office hours or an appeal procedure on the pages we read; ask the faculty office or Student Records.
Admissions and student support
NMU runs admissions as four steps: Discovery, Application, Admission, then Registration. Each has its own page and its own deadlines, and being through one does not carry you into the next.
An offer is not a place until you confirm it. NMU states plainly that you must confirm any admission offer “so that we can reserve a place for you” – an unconfirmed offer does not hold. This is the step applicants most often miss, and the seat goes to someone else while they wait for a further letter that is not coming.
Residence is a separate application with a separate status. Academic admission does not include accommodation – residence admission status is checked through the Student Housing pages, not the admission portal.
Once you have applied you can check admission status, change your study choice and update your contact details online. NMU also lists general contact email addresses by office, so an enquiry can go straight to the right desk rather than through the switchboard.

NMU financial aid contact details
Email the Financial Aid Office on financialaid@mandela.ac.za, including for NSFAS-related queries, or call the university’s Contact Centre on 041 504 1111 with your student number ready. Financial Aid has help desks on North, Missionvale and George campuses. Its office hours are not published on the financial aid site.
NMU student accounts and cashiers office
All account matters go only to Student Accounts at studentaccounts@mandela.ac.za, including proof of payment and refund requests. International students use intfees@mandela.ac.za, and sponsors or employers use studentaccounts.employers@mandela.ac.za. Student Accounts and cashiers work weekdays 08:30 to 16:00 on North, South, 2nd Avenue, Missionvale and George campuses, with most cashiers closing for lunch from 13:00 to 13:45; the International Office handles accounts from 09:30 to 15:00. Pay only NMU cashiers, never an individual official, and allow up to 2 days for a direct bank payment to reflect.
NMU mail (student email)
NMU student email is Office 365: go to outlook.office.com and sign in with your student number followed by @mandela.ac.za, starting with s. Official university communication is sent only to this address. For IT problems, log a call with the helpdesk at helpdesk@mandela.ac.za.
Campus and address information
NMU has six campuses in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro and one in George, roughly 300km along the coast. The George campus is a different city, not a satellite building – check which campus a programme is offered on before you accept a place, because it decides where you will live.
The PO Box above is a postal address. The university publishes interactive campus maps and 360-degree virtual tours for finding specific buildings.

Escalation routes
Take an academic matter to the department, then the school, then the faculty, keeping your student number and the dates. NMU runs an Ethics Hotline for misconduct and a Report a Security Breach channel for information security incidents – both linked from the footer of its site.
Beyond the university, a complaint about a public higher education institution goes to the Department of Higher Education and Training, maladministration to the Public Protector, and an NSFAS funding decision back to NSFAS – the university administers the payment, it does not decide the award.
