Two numbers that look identical

Isuzu writes its numbers as words, and the two roadside numbers differ by a single digit at the front. It is easy to dial the wrong one while standing next to a broken-down vehicle.

  • 08000 ISUZU is 0800 047 898. Option 1 is roadside assistance for light commercial vehicles and SUVs, which means bakkies and the MU-X. Option 2 is customer care.
  • 08600 ISUZU is 0860 047 898. Option 1 is roadside assistance for commercial vehicles, which means trucks.

Many phones will not let you dial letters at all, so save the digit form. Note too that 0800 is toll free while 0860 is a share-call rate, so the truck line is not free.

If you are calling from outside South Africa, neither 0800 nor 0860 will connect. Use +27 41 403 2555. The 041 code is Gqeberha, where Isuzu’s head office is.

The contact page address that fails

isuzu.co.za/contact-us returns Isuzu’s “wrong turn” error page. The working address is isuzu.co.za/contact, with no “us” on the end.

This is easy to miss because the error page still shows a full Isuzu menu with a Contact Us item in it, so it does not look like a failure at first glance.

Isuzu’s own locations

Isuzu Motors South Africa lists five of its own sites, separate from the dealer network.

  • Head office, Struandale, Gqeberha.
  • Distribution centre, Markman, Gqeberha.
  • Hertford offices, Midrand, Johannesburg.
  • Parts distribution centre, Germiston, Johannesburg.
  • Training centre, Germiston, Johannesburg.

None of these is a walk-in service centre. Servicing, parts and warranty work happen at dealers, not at head office.

Use Locate a Dealer on isuzu.co.za. Its listings state the dealer’s street address, telephone number, and whether that dealer handles bakkies, trucks, servicing, or panel work, which is worth checking before you drive there.

To take one example, the Isuzu dealer in Kuruman in the Northern Cape is Sydney Hunt Kuruman, at 38 Steward Street, on 053 110 0191 or 053 110 0192. Isuzu’s listing shows it as a bakkie dealer with bakkie servicing, and not as a truck dealer or a panel shop.

One caution about dealer email addresses. Some entries in Isuzu’s dealer data carry personal free webmail addresses rather than business ones. Where that is the case, phone the dealer instead of emailing, and never send identity documents or deposit money to a webmail address given for a dealership.

The online enquiry form

Isuzu’s contact form asks for an enquiry type, and the list shows what it expects to handle: accessories, advertising campaigns, career, complaint, current vehicle, dealer, fleet, parts enquiry, product information, service request, technical enquiry, website, and other.

It also asks for your country, offering South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini, and for your VIN and registration number.

Pick Complaint if that is what it is. It is a separate category from Customer Care enquiries, and choosing it routes the message differently.

Before you call

Have your VIN and registration number. The form asks for both and the call centre will too, because the VIN is what identifies the vehicle’s specification, warranty status and any field action affecting it.

Know which dealer last serviced the vehicle. Service history sits with the dealer network rather than centrally.

For a breakdown, know where you are before you dial, and be sure whether you are in a bakkie or a truck, because that decides which of the two numbers you need.

Isuzu publishes no operating hours for customer care, so treat it as a weekday business-hours line. Roadside assistance is the route outside those hours.
