Gift of the Givers Contact Details
Gift of the Givers’ Lenasia office is at 196 Rose Avenue, Ext 5. It has no telephone number of its own. Neither does any of the foundation’s other South African offices. 0800 786 911 is genuinely toll-free, which matters here more than on most pages. People contacting a disaster relief organisation are often the ones least able to afford the call.
The foundation invites contact in three situations specifically: if you are aware of a dire emergency, if you want information about its work, or if you want to become a once-off or regular donor.

Six offices, six addresses, zero telephone numbers. This is a deliberate structure rather than an oversight: one call centre answers for the whole organisation, which is how a disaster response body keeps a single view of what is happening.
The practical consequence is that you cannot phone ahead to Lenasia to check whether someone is there or whether they can take a donation of goods. Ring the national number first and ask, rather than driving to Rose Avenue on the assumption that it is a walk-in depot.
Note that Lenasia and Johannesburg are separate offices. Lenasia is in the south of the city and Robertville is on the west rand, so they are not interchangeable.
Checking a Gift of the Givers appeal is real
Disaster appeals attract impersonators, and this is one of the most impersonated names in South African charity. The foundation publishes two registration numbers, and they are the thing to check.

The PBO number is the more useful of the two. Public benefit organisation status is granted by SARS and is what allows a receipt to be used as a tax deduction. An appeal that cannot produce a PBO number, or produces a different one, is not this organisation.
Two further checks worth making. Gift of the Givers publishes exactly one email address, on the giftofthegivers.org domain. A message from a free webmail account is not from the foundation. And the only telephone number it publishes is the toll-free one, so a mobile number given as a Gift of the Givers contact does not match anything they publish.
We do not reproduce any organisation’s banking details, and you should be equally wary of anyone who sends you some. If you intend to donate, start at the foundation’s own website or call the toll-free number and let them tell you where to pay. Never act on account details that arrive in an unexpected message, even one quoting a real disaster.
Offices outside South Africa
The foundation describes itself as the largest disaster response non-governmental organisation of African origin on the continent, and it maintains offices in several countries. None of these publishes a telephone number either.

For anything concerning these, use the South African call centre or the email address. They are operational bases rather than public offices.
What they say about who they help
This is worth quoting because it answers a question people hesitate to ask before calling.
The foundation states that its assistance is purely humanitarian and unconditional, given irrespective of race, religion, colour, class, political affiliation or geographic boundary, and that it is neutral, non-judgemental and open-minded in its approach to every situation.
So there is no eligibility test to pass before you phone. If the situation is a genuine emergency, the toll-free number is the right place to start.
