You never pay for a mining job. No legitimate mine, contractor or recruitment agency charges a fee for an application, a medical, a training course that guarantees placement, or a induction card. Every one of those is a known scam on the platinum belt.

How the recruitment scam works
It is consistent enough to recognise. An advert circulates on WhatsApp or Facebook with a mine’s logo, a cellphone number and no company email address. The caller confirms you have been shortlisted, then asks for a deposit for a medical, a safety course or transport to site.
- Vacancies are advertised on the company’s own careers page. Check there before believing any circular.
- A company email address is not a Gmail address. Recruitment from a free mail account is not recruitment.
- Never send certified copies of your identity document to a stranger. They are used to open accounts in your name.
- An EFT to an individual is unrecoverable. That is why they ask for one.
