Services at this location
Grootegeluk is an open-pit coal mine employing 3 200 people and producing 26Mtpa of final coal products. About 22Mt a year of power station coal goes to Eskom’s Matimba and Medupi power stations on a 7 km conveyor.
The mine also produces 2.5Mtpa of semi-soft coking coal, mostly railed to ArcelorMittal SA, and about 1Mtpa is exported through Richards Bay Coal Terminal or sold locally.
