SACE Contact Details

The South African Council for Educators registers every educator who teaches in South Africa and holds the profession’s code of conduct. The contact details below were read from sace.org.za on 2 September 2026.

SACE lists the same number for its switchboard and its call centre. There is no separate registrations line, so expect the one number to carry everything.

Services and responsibilities

SACE registers educators, issues registration certificates and confirmation letters, maintains the professional code of ethics and hears misconduct cases against teachers, and runs professional development endorsement. Registration is a legal requirement to teach, in public and independent schools alike, so a certificate or a letter of good standing is usually what an employer is waiting for.

It publishes a Teacher Safety and Security Handbook and revised registration requirements dated 2024 – check the current requirements before applying, since they changed.

Only four provinces have an office, and none of them publishes its own phone number. Educators in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, North West and Mpumalanga deal with Centurion. Even where there is a local office, the Centurion number is the one to call.

Applications and escalation

Registration runs through the government e-services portal, not through SACE’s own site. Register once at eservices.gov.za, then log in and select SACE. If you already have an e-gov account, do not register a second time – log in with the one you have.

SACE warns applicants to print their email address and contact number clearly on the application form. That is not a formality: it lets the office email a soft copy of the certificate while the original is in the post, which is usually the difference between starting a job on time and waiting weeks. An illegible email address is a common cause of delay.

Report anyone offering to arrange or speed up a SACE certificate for a fee to Fraudalert@sace.org.za – certificates are issued only through the official process.

Chase a stalled application on 012 663 9517 with your application reference and the date you submitted. Beyond SACE, teacher policy sits with the Department of Basic Education, and maladministration by a statutory body can go to the Public Protector.
