Mediclinic Baby is a pregnancy and parenting programme rather than a ward. It publishes a due date calculator, an ovulation checker, a parenting guide and an app, and the helpline runs 24 hours a day. It does not admit patients or book beds.

Choosing a hospital for a birth is done through the hospital directly or through a doctor, not through the Baby helpline. A complaint about maternity care that the hospital does not resolve can be taken to the Office of Health Standards Compliance, the statutory body for complaints against health establishments in South Africa.
