The Department of Justice lower courts directory contains no entries of the type regional court, at Paarl or anywhere else. A regional court is a tier of the magistrate court system rather than a separate building with its own contacts.

Services and responsibilities

A regional court sits at a magistrate court and hears the more serious matters that a district court cannot: serious crime carrying heavier sentences, and divorce, which an ordinary district magistrate court does not deal with. The regional court sitting at Paarl is reached on the Paarl magistrate court number.

Office and address information

The Paarl court is on the corner of Market Street and Bergrivier Boulevard, Paarl, 7622, with post to Private Bag X5003 at the same code.

Applications and escalation

If you have been told your matter is in the regional court, that tells you the seriousness of the charge or that it is a divorce, not that it is at a different address. The high court is a further and separate tier: the Western Cape Division sits at 35 Keerom Street, Cape Town, on 021 480 2637.
