Military Veterans Database Contact Details

The military veterans database is the register kept by the Department of Military Veterans. Being on it is what unlocks every benefit in the Military Veterans Act, so almost every query about housing, bursaries, healthcare or the pension starts with whether your record is on the database and correct.

Getting onto the database

• The application is the Military Veterans Database Information Form, published on the department website as MVDB_FORM.pdf
• The form is marked confidential when completed. It collects identity and service history details, so hand it in at an office or send it to a departmental address rather than to a private mailbox
• The department periodically runs verification exercises for applicants from the former non-statutory forces, province by province. If a verification is running in your province, attending it is faster than posting a form
• A caution. The departmental website is served over plain HTTP with no secure version, and at least one provincial contact is published as a personal Gmail address. Do not email scans of your ID, service record or bank details to a free webmail address, whoever it is listed under. Deliver them in person or to a dmv.gov.za address

Benefit units you can ask for by name

• Tertiary education support: 066 453 1122. Basic education support: 071 544 1866
• The military veterans pension is administered by the GPAA, the Government Pensions Administration Agency, on 0800 772 3646
• Other units, including database, housing, burial support, healthcare and skills development, are reached through the call centre
• Benefits under the Act cover healthcare and counselling, education and skills, housing, burial support and the pension, and several extend to dependants
