The University of Mpumalanga publishes a separate mailbox for applications and registration, and it is not the general enquiries one. Using the right address is most of the battle.

Send an application query to info@ and it has to be forwarded before anyone can act on it, which costs days in a season measured in days.
The two campuses
- Mbombela Campus — corner of the R40 and D725 roads, Mbombela, 1200
- Siyabuswa Campus — Bheki Mfundo Drive, Siyabuswa
They are roughly 300km apart, at opposite ends of the province, and different qualifications are offered at each. Check which campus your programme is on before you make travel plans or accept an offer.
What to have ready when you write
- Your application or student number if you have one. Without it your email is one of thousands.
- Your identity number, and the exact qualification name and code you applied for.
- The academic year you are applying for.
- One question per email. Several questions in one message get one answer.
Application windows close and do not reopen
University applications in South Africa run to hard dates, usually opening in the first half of the year and closing well before the year ends, with late applications either not accepted or handled separately at a fee. Check the closing date on ump.ac.za yourself rather than relying on a date someone told you, and apply early — a system that is being used by everyone in the last week is the system that fails.
Matric results, and what changes after them
An offer made on your Grade 11 or preliminary results is provisional. It is confirmed against your final National Senior Certificate results, and it can be withdrawn if you do not meet the requirement. If your final results are better than expected, that is the moment to ask about a programme you did not qualify for earlier — but ask immediately, because places fill in the first days of January.
Funding is a separate application
Applying to UMP does not apply for funding. NSFAS is applied for separately, directly to NSFAS, on its own dates, and being accepted by the university does not mean you are funded. Do both, and keep the reference numbers for each apart in your own records.
Nobody at UMP sells a place
Every year people are charged for “guaranteed admission”, for a space on a full programme, or to have an application “pushed through”. A public university does not work that way and no member of staff can do it. Application fees, where they exist, are paid to the university on its own published banking details obtained from the university itself — never from a WhatsApp message, and never to a person. If someone offers this, report it: UMP publishes a whistleblowing hotline on its own site.
