Each store has its own WhatsApp number on its store page, so the Northgate number above will not reach other branches. The website terms, section 20, still name 087 362 8000 as the call centre, while the Contact Us page shows 087 820 4758. Use the Contact Us number first. The Northgate store page did not show trading hours when we checked, so call before you go.
What this organisation provides
Cash Converters buys, sells and lends against pre-owned goods such as electronics, jewellery, tools and musical instruments. Cash Converters Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd started in 1994 and holds the master franchise licence for sub-Saharan Africa, with stores in South Africa, Namibia and Nigeria. Stores are independently owned franchises, so lay-by terms and stock differ from store to store.
There are two loan products, both taken out in store. A Same Day loan is a one-month loan repaid on your next payday and loaded onto a Cashies Card, not paid into a bank account; bring proof of identity, recent payslips and three months’ bank statements. A Cash Advance is a 30-day loan against an item you own, with no affordability assessment or credit check. Every store is registered with the National Credit Regulator, and fees follow the National Credit Act.
To sell, you must be over 18 and carry an original ID document, passport or driver’s licence. Most items bought carry a six-month warranty covering repair, replacement or a refund at purchase price. Some items, such as batteries, CDs and DVDs and car audio that was not professionally installed, fall under a separate express warranty, and the exclusions are printed on the back of the till slip. Keep the slip, because the warranty depends on it.
Address and operating information
The website terms give the company’s street address, which is also its address for legal service, as 22 Mac-Mac Road, Waterfall Park, Vorna Valley, Midrand 1686. Postal address: Private Bag X007, Halfway House 1685. Registration number 1994/001274/07. Loans, sales and purchases are handled by the stores, not at this address.
The Gauteng store list showed 63 stores. Other Randburg stores on it include Honey Crest in Randpark Ridge (011 794 6241), Blackheath (011 476 8454) and Randburg Square (087 094 1692).
Support and escalation routes
- Raise it with the manager or owner of the store where you transacted. If a Cash Advance expires on a public holiday, the FAQ says to arrange this with that store.
- Email customercare@cashconverters.co.za or call 087 820 4758 with the store name and your till slip or loan agreement details.
- For goods, the terms say that if the complaint is not resolved within 15 business days you may go to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud: 0860 000 272, WhatsApp 081 335 3005, info@cgso.org.za.
- For a loan fee or credit agreement problem, contact the National Credit Regulator, which registers each store: 0860 627 627, complaints@ncr.org.za.
