Capitec fraud line for personal and business banking

For suspected fraud involving personal banking, use 0860 10 20 43, the Capitec Client Contact centre. Business banking fraud can be reported on 0860 30 92 50. These are the telephone routes listed in Capitec’s fraud information for reporting an incident.

You can also report fraud by sending “Hello” to Capitec’s verified WhatsApp number, 067 418 9565, or by visiting your nearest branch and speaking to a consultant.

If you are calling from outside South Africa, check the international number on Capitec’s current contact page before you call. Capitec’s own documents and its website have listed different international numbers, and we could not confirm which one is current.

Capitec Bank WhatsApp number for fraud

Capitec’s verified WhatsApp number for reporting fraud is 067 418 9565. Send “Hello” to begin. This is one of the four fraud-reporting routes listed by Capitec, alongside the personal banking number, business banking number and visiting a branch.

Capitec also runs MoneyUp Chat on 087 240 5757. This WhatsApp line is for money-safety education and is not a fraud-reporting line.

What to have ready when contacting Capitec about fraud

Act quickly and have your ID and account details ready. Note what happened, including the date and time, the amounts involved and any SMS, email, call or link you received. Having those details available gives you a clear record of the incident when you contact Capitec.

Capitec says it will not send an SMS or email with a link asking you to enter or update personal or banking details. A message containing such a request should therefore be treated as a warning sign.

Capitec also warns about money mules. You could be arrested if someone uses your account to move money illegally, even if you did not know it was criminal. If someone has asked to use your account, report it.

How to report Capitec Bank fraud

Capitec’s fraud policy tells clients who suspect that they are fraud victims to report the incident to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and to Capitec immediately.

For people who want to stay anonymous, Capitec lists Tip-offs Anonymous on 0800 004 836 and capitecbank@tip-offs.com. Capitec’s fraud policy frames this hotline mainly for employees, so clients reporting fraud on their own accounts should use the Client Contact centre first.
