The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) is a Gauteng Provincial Government entity that builds skilled talent for the province through bursaries, workforce development, career guidance, youth programmes and public service training.

Admissions and student support
GCRA programmes run from school to the labour market: career guidance, the bursary programme, workforce development and public sector capacity building. It takes its strategic direction from Growing Gauteng Together 2030 (GGT2030).
The GCRA bursary is the Gauteng Provincial Government’s largest bursary scheme. It covers the full cost of study, subject to the bursary contract. Applications are made online at gcrabursary.gauteng.gov.za; the 2026 application window was shown as closed when we checked on 2026-09-26.
To apply, you must be a South African citizen aged 18 to 35 living in Gauteng. You need:
- a certified ID
- proof of Gauteng residence
- your matric results
- proof of income
- a motivation letter
- proof of acceptance at a post-school (PSET) institution
The top 3 Grade 12 learners from no-fee, SSIP and LSEN government schools in Gauteng qualify automatically, but they must still apply online.

The bursary portal lists the office at 17 Simmonds Street, Marshalltown, Johannesburg 2000. The GCRA About Us page also shows 55 Marshall Street, Johannesburg 2001. Phone ahead on 0800 000 789 before visiting to check which office handles your query. GCRA does not publish office hours.
