What Exxaro provides
Exxaro runs the Grootegeluk, Matla, Belfast and Leeuwpan coal mines, and owns 50% of Mafube. It also operates the Tsitsikamma Community and Amakhala Emoyeni wind farms.
Grootegeluk, 20 km from Lephalale in Limpopo, is an open-pit mine that employs 3 200 people and produces 26Mtpa of final coal products. About 22Mt a year of its power-station coal goes to Eskom’s Matimba and Medupi power stations on a 7 km conveyor. For the local operation, see the Exxaro Lephalale page.
Cennergi, created in 2012, built Exxaro’s two Eastern Cape wind farms, totalling 229 MW, in 2016.
