On 30 June 2026 Sasfin voluntarily gave up its banking licence to the South African Reserve Bank, and the cancellation was gazetted on 17 July 2026. Sasfin has stopped being an integrated banking group and is now an investment-holding company. Sasfin Bank Limited is converting from a public company to a private company and being renamed Sasfin (Pty) Ltd.

Sasfin Wealth has been renamed Otto1890. It describes the change as a renaming rather than a reinvention: the same standalone investment business, which had already been operating with its own board and its own support services.
The Otto1890 name refers to the history of the business. Otto Pollak became one of the first members of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on 11 February 1890, and the firm he and his brother Max built, later joined by Eric Freemantle, eventually became Sasfin Wealth.
