If someone has died, use the “Report a deceased estate” form rather than the general queries form. It asks for your loved one’s name and ID number, your name, email and contact number, and Capital Legacy says it will be in touch to guide you through the process. Capital Legacy life insurance: the Legacy Protection Plan
The Legacy Protection Plan is Capital Legacy’s will-integrated insurance, which it says covers the fees and costs of winding up an estate when you pass away. It is underwritten by Guardrisk Life Ltd, a licensed life insurer, and Capital Legacy Solutions (Pty) Ltd is an authorised financial services provider. Capital Legacy lists these benefits:
- Indemnity Benefit: helps indemnify executor fees, testamentary trust fees and conveyancing attorney fees.
- Immediate Liquidity: cash paid to beneficiaries for funeral expenses, travel costs, groceries and other immediate expenses.
- Estate Overheads Protector: paid to the executor for Master’s fees, correspondence and clearance fees, medical aid, utility bills and other monthly expenses during administration.
- Beneficiary Care Benefit: funds held in a trust for school fees, daily care and other living expenses.
Capital Legacy’s website has a calculator to estimate your “costs of dying” and a downloadable brochure. As an example, it says the cost of wrapping up a R2 million estate for a 37-year-old non-smoker could be R428 246, which it says could be covered for R208.50 a month, subject to terms and medicals.

On its website it reports more than 1.6 million wills drafted, 2 000 staff, 350 in-house estate professionals and a relationship with over 20 000 financial advisors, and says it launched the Legacy Protection Plan in 2012.
