What is MIBFA?

The Metal Industries Benefit Funds Administrators (MIBFA) is a non-profit company that administers benefit funds in the metal and engineering industry, including the Metal Industries Provident Fund (MIPF) and the Engineering Industries Pension Fund (EIPF). Its website serves members and helps employers, including wages, human resources and finance staff, understand their obligations under the Pension Funds Act, the Income Tax Act and the industry’s Main Agreement. The site also carries information on contributions, the MEIBC sick pay fund, retirement, withdrawal, death and disability benefits, and forms.

MIBFA WhatsApp number

MIBFA’s contact page, member portal page and Two Pot documents do not list a WhatsApp number, including for the Two Pot system. The contact numbers MIBFA publishes are the Call Centre on 0860 102 544 and its office landlines in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Because Two Pot withdrawals involve your ID, bank details and retirement savings, be careful of any “MIBFA Two Pot WhatsApp number” shared on social media, and use the official numbers above or ask your employer’s HR department.

MIBFA member portal login

On www.mibfa.co.za, click Benefit Statements and Two Pot Savings to open the Member Portal, choose whether you want your benefit statements or your Two Pot savings information, and log in with your ID number and password. MIBFA says to phone the MIBFA Call Centre on 0860 102 544, or ask your HR department to phone, to obtain your password; if you are logging in for the first time, you need to call the Call Centre to activate your password. The portal shows your current savings benefit breakdown and values, which replace the old savings statements. There is also a benefit statement query form on the login page.

MIBFA Two Pot system: how to withdraw

From 1 September 2024, MIBFA members have up to four pots, including a Savings Pot, which holds the Two Pot seeding amount and one-third of retirement contributions from that date and can be withdrawn without leaving employment, and a Retirement Pot, which must be preserved until retirement. MIBFA’s savings withdrawal form sets these rules: the amount may not be less than R2,000, may not exceed your savings value, and you may claim only once per tax year, from 1 March to the end of February. The amount is subject to tax and admin fees.

• First application: complete the application form in full, attach a clear copy of your ID, a bank confirmation letter or current bank statement for the account your salary is paid into, and any divorce or maintenance court orders. Your employer completes the employer’s declaration and emails the form to savingsclaims@mibfa.co.za. No alterations are accepted on the form.
• Applying online: you can apply through the Member Portal only if you have claimed successfully before, a savings payment letter was issued for that claim, your savings value is R2,000 or more, and your details have not changed.
