Private Property does not publish a WhatsApp number. Its PAIA manual describes it as an online property portal. It shows adverts but does not own, sell or rent the properties, so questions about a particular home go to the agent or private seller named on the listing.

What this organisation provides

Private Property was founded in 1998 and says it was the first property brand of its kind in South Africa. The site is run by Private Property South Africa (Pty) Ltd. On privateproperty.co.za you can search homes, commercial property and farms for sale or to rent, bank-assisted sales and repossessions, developments and on-show days. You can also find an estate agent or attorney, set up property alerts and use its bond and affordability calculators. Owners can list a property to sell or rent privately, and agencies can advertise their listings.

The site’s advice centre also has guidance on scams. It warns about emails intercepted during a sale that switch the bank details, fake landlords who copy real adverts and ask for a deposit before you have seen the property, and fake estate agents using stolen identities. Its advice is to view a rental in person and meet the landlord, check the agency, confirm bank details directly and avoid paying a deposit before a lease is signed.

Address and operating information

The contact page gives the physical address as Bendehuis, 5 Hazelwood Street, Hazelwood, Pretoria, Gauteng 0081. Private Property’s PAIA manual, last revised in April 2024, still gives an older Hazelwood address at The Club Retail. Use the contact page address, which is the more recent of the two. Support hours are 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays. The site does not list weekend hours.

Support and escalation routes

  1. If the problem is with the website, your account or an advert, contact Private Property support by phone, email or the helpdesk portal. Report a suspicious listing the same way, with its web address.
  2. If the problem is with an estate agent, first complain in writing to the principal of the agency that listed the property. Complaints about a property practitioner go next to the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority at theppra.org.za.
  3. If you are unhappy with how Private Property handled your personal information, email privacy@privateproperty.co.za. The Information Regulator’s address in Private Property’s PAIA manual is enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.

If you have paid a deposit to someone you now think was a scammer, call your bank immediately and open a case with the police. Then report the advert to Private Property support, so the listing can be checked.
