WeekendsNo hours published

021 is a Cape Town landline code, and Muizenberg is on the False Bay side of the peninsula rather than in the city centre. The club publishes no weekend hours, so treat it as a weekday operation.

Note the office closes half an hour earlier on a Friday. If you are calling about a delivery that has not arrived, Friday afternoon is the worst time to leave it.

The contact page moved

A small thing that wastes people’s time. The address wineofthemonth.co.za/contact-us returns a 404 error. The working page is at /contact, without the “us”.

If you have an old bookmark or followed a link from elsewhere and got an error page, the club has not disappeared; the address has just changed.

Cancelling or changing a subscription

This is the reason most people go looking for these details, so it is worth being direct about it.

The Wine-of-the-Month Club is a recurring subscription. Wine arrives and is billed on a cycle rather than order by order, which means a subscription you stop wanting keeps costing money until it is actually stopped.

The club runs a Manage My Subscription facility on its own site, linked from the footer, and that is the first place to go. It is faster than phoning and it leaves a record on your account.

If you cannot get it done there, email cheers@wineofthemonth.co.za rather than phoning. A cancellation you can prove you requested, on a date you can point to, is worth far more than a phone call you cannot evidence. Keep the reply.

Do it well before the next billing date. A subscription cancelled the day a batch dispatches is usually too late to stop that month’s charge.

Which club you are in

Say which one when you make contact, because the club runs several and they bill differently.

The wine plans are the Reserve Plan, Classic Plan and Best Value Plan, plus an MCC Club for Cap Classique.

Alongside those sit the Gourmet and Spirits clubs: Brandy, Whisky, Gin Box, Coffee, Olive and the Ooh! Box.

The club has been running since 1986 and describes its wine as panel-selected, with a money-back guarantee. If you are unhappy with a case, that guarantee is the thing to raise in your first message rather than after several exchanges.

Deliveries and rewards

Delivery is free on orders over R2,000. Below that, a delivery charge applies, and the site estimates shipping at checkout rather than publishing a flat rate.

The club accepts several loyalty and rewards programmes, which is unusual for a wine retailer and worth knowing before you pay cash. It lists uCount Rewards, Standard Bank Platinum, Professional and Titanium benefits, Legacy Lifestyle, Diners Club and SAA Voyager Miles redemption.

Queries about those programmes are usually better taken up with the programme itself than with the club, since the club only accepts the redemption rather than running the scheme.

The site also has an age gate requiring you to confirm you are 18 or older before it will show you anything, as South African law requires for alcohol.

Before you pay

The club publishes one email address and one telephone number, both on the wineofthemonth.co.za domain and a Cape Town landline. Anything arriving from a free email account, or giving a mobile number as the club’s contact, does not match what it publishes.

Pay through the site’s own checkout. We do not reproduce any organisation’s banking details, and you should be equally wary of an unexpected message asking you to transfer money for a wine order to an account given in an email.
