CPUT Student Debtors contact number and finance desks

You can contact CPUT Student Debtors and Financial Clearance representatives through these phone lines during standard office hours, 08:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday:

The email desks are:

Because CPUT occasionally updates direct lines and staff rotations between semester peaks, check the live CPUT website at www.cput.ac.za if an email bounces or a phone line is busy.

Checking your balance and paying online

CPUT provides self-service tools through the official CPUT SOS (Student Online Services) portal. Through this system, students can:

  • View account balances and download official fee statements.
  • Check for financial clearance indicators or registration holds.
  • Make secure online credit/debit card payments directly into CPUT’s merchant gateway, and submit electronic proof of payment through the same portal.

When a clearance or payment is stuck

If your fee query, clearance request, or payment reflection is delayed and causing registration blocks, this is the sequence to follow:

  • First point of contact: email the relevant campus clearance team (Finquery1@cput.ac.za or Finquery2@cput.ac.za) with your student number in the subject line. Keep a record of all emails sent and proof of payment attached.
  • Departmental escalation: if you receive no response within 3 to 5 working days during peak registration, escalate to the CPUT Student Debtors Manager or visit the physical Finance Desk on your home campus.
  • Formal dispute: if a billing dispute remains unresolved, log a dispute with the CPUT Registrar’s Office or Dean of Students, providing a complete trail of correspondence and receipts.

Fake payment demands and student scams

Financial scams targeting university students increase significantly during registration periods. CPUT bank account details (ABSA / Standard Bank / FNB / Nedbank) are published strictly on the official CPUT website or official fee statements. Never deposit money into a personal bank account or e-wallet provided via SMS or social media, and avoid taking bank details or email addresses from social media posts or unverified messaging groups.

If you receive suspicious messages demanding immediate payment to avoid exclusion, cross-check the claims via the official fake government SMS South Africa guide or contact CPUT Protection Services. To report suspected fraud or extortion involving university accounts, report the matter to the Anti Corruption Hotline South Africa.

What to include when you contact CPUT finance

Having these ready before calling or emailing CPUT Finance speeds up the resolution:

  • Student number: always include your 9-digit CPUT student number in email subject lines and have it ready when calling.
  • National ID or passport number: used for identity verification.
  • Official bank proof of payment (POP): must show the CPUT bank account number, deposit date, amount, and your student number as the payment reference.
  • Signed Acknowledgment of Debt (AOD): if you are applying for a payment arrangement, ensure the AOD form is fully completed and signed.
  • Bursary or NSFAS remittance advice: proof of funding approval if your fees are covered by a third party.

Contact pages for other South African public services and official entities sit in the government directory on this site, alongside guides to the Anti Corruption Hotline and the BizPortal B-BBEE certificate, company registration and Compensation Fund contacts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CPUT Student Debtors contact number?

The Student Debtors Direct Line is 021 959 6370, for AOD agreements and settlements. The Bellville clearance centre is on 021 959 4343 and District Six on 021 460 3396, both from 08:00 to 16:30 on weekdays.

Which email address handles my campus’s financial clearance?

Bellville queries go to Finquery2@cput.ac.za and District Six queries to Finquery1@cput.ac.za. Put your 9-digit student number in the subject line and attach your proof of payment.

Does CPUT Student Debtors work over WhatsApp?

CPUT does not operate an official public WhatsApp line for student debt collection or financial clearance payments. Be cautious of anyone contacting you on WhatsApp posing as a CPUT finance official asking for direct payments or banking details, and use the CPUT SOS portal or the campus email desks instead.

How do I check whether my CPUT account is cleared for registration?

Log in to the CPUT SOS (Student Online Services) portal and check for financial clearance indicators or registration holds. The portal also shows your account balance and lets you download an official fee statement, so you can see what is still owed before contacting the desks.

What do you need when applying for a payment arrangement?

A fully completed and signed AOD form, your student number and ID or passport number, and a bursary or NSFAS remittance advice if a third party covers your fees. Official bank proof of payment must show the CPUT bank account number, deposit date, amount and your student number as the reference.
