Two street addresses in Bloemfontein

CUT publishes two different addresses for the same Bloemfontein campus, and they are not interchangeable if you are driving there. The physical address is 20 President Brand Street, Westdene. The main entrance of the university is 1 Park Road, Westdene, which is the one CUT flags separately.

Navigate to the Park Road entrance if you are arriving by car. CUT also publishes a downloadable campus map in PDF for each campus, and says its buildings are tagged on Google Maps, which is worth doing before a first visit.

Where to send post for either campus

Both campus listings give the same instruction: address all correspondence to The Registrar, Central University of Technology, Free State, Private Bag X20539, Bloemfontein, 9300. There is no separate postal address for Welkom, so a letter about a Welkom matter still goes to Bloemfontein, which adds time. If something is urgent, phone the campus directly instead of posting it. Welkom is about 160 kilometres north-east of Bloemfontein, so these are genuinely separate places rather than two sites in one city.

CUT emergency and after-hours numbers

CUT publishes a proper set of emergency contacts, split by campus. These are the ones to save if you study or work there:

The two hotline numbers differ by a single final digit, 60 for Bloemfontein and 61 for Welkom, so check it before you dial in a hurry.

CUT also lists two numbers that are not its own: Emergency Medical Services on 051 407 6000 and the Disaster Management Centre on 051 409 9600. These are municipal and provincial services rather than university desks, so use them for a medical or disaster emergency rather than for a campus security matter.

Type the www for the CUT website

Only www.cut.ac.za works. The address without the www does not load: the plain address refuses the secure connection outright and times out over an ordinary one. Checked on 24 September 2026: if you typed cut.ac.za and got nothing, that is why, and the university is not offline.

CUT departments and student services

CUT publishes no general email address on its contact page. Instead it lists Contact Details by Category, covering executive management, units and centres, teaching and learning, and the faculties.

Its administration functions are listed separately and are worth knowing by name, because asking for the right one at the switchboard is faster than describing your problem: Academic Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Estates and Infrastructure, ICT and Computer Services, Communications and Marketing, Institutional Advancement, Governance Risk and Compliance, Internal Audit, and Institutional Planning and Quality Enhancement.

For student matters there are dedicated routes on the site: Student Affairs, the Wellness Centre, the Disability Unit, Residences, and an Ask CUT enquiry service. Check Application Status and Register Online are self-service, and eThuto and Student Connect+ are the student portals.

CUT also runs a whistleblowing route, listed alongside the executive management contacts, for reporting misconduct rather than for ordinary complaints.

Before you call CUT

Say which campus. Bloemfontein and Welkom have separate switchboards, and the wrong one cannot help with the other’s records.

Have your student number, or your identity number if you are an applicant.

Name the department. CUT’s switchboard serves a university with a long list of separately listed units, and naming one saves a transfer.

CUT publishes no switchboard operating hours, so treat 051 507 3911 and 057 910 3500 as weekday business-hours lines. The Protection Services numbers are the after-hours route.
