UP Admission Contact Details
All Education contactsComplaints & escalation
For University of Pretoria admissions, contact the Student Service Centre on 012 420 3111 or ssc@up.ac.za if you are applying to study on campus. Online students go to the UPOnline Call Centre on 012 420 8325 or uponline@up.ac.za. If the application system itself is failing, the ITS Helpdesk on 012 420 3051 or help@it.up.ac.za is the right route.
UP runs two separate contact centres, and admissions queries go to different ones depending on how you intend to study. Ringing the wrong one is the most common reason an application query goes unanswered.
UP admission contact details at a glance
- Student Service Centre, for contact students: 012 420 3111, or ssc@up.ac.za
- UPOnline Call Centre, for online students: 012 420 8325, or uponline@up.ac.za
- ITS Helpdesk, if the online application system itself is failing: 012 420 3051, or help@it.up.ac.za
- 24-hour operations: 012 420 2310
Take the ITS Helpdesk seriously as a separate route. A password that will not reset, a document that will not upload or a portal that will not load is a technical fault, and the Student Service Centre cannot fix it. Sending that to the helpdesk instead saves days.
Getting ready to apply to UP
UP publishes application guidelines and a set of important dates, and says openly that you should prepare your documents before applications open rather than after. It also publishes a programme calculator: you capture your school subjects and marks and it tells you which programmes you may be considered for. Use it before you apply, because a well-matched application is worth more than three speculative ones.
- Apply as soon as applications open for the academic year; places close before the closing date on popular programmes
- Residence accommodation is a separate application with its own dates, and it is not granted automatically with an academic offer
- Fees, funding and financial aid have a separate registration, and UP states plainly that applying does not guarantee financial assistance
Following up on your UP application
Have your application or student number and your identity number ready, and say which programme and which year you applied for. Ask specifically what status your application is in and what, if anything, is outstanding. An application sitting incomplete because one document did not upload looks identical from the outside to one under consideration, and only the centre can tell you which it is.
Student support lines at UP
- UP Counselling Careline: 0800 747 747
- Crisis Service: 0800 006 428
These are for registered students and are free to call. The period around applications, results and registration is when students most often need these lines and least often know they exist.
Application scams: what UP will never ask
Nobody at a public university can guarantee you a place for a fee, and no genuine offer arrives by WhatsApp from a private number. UP takes applications only through its own online application system, and it publishes its careers, tenders and ethics hotline links openly on its own site. If somebody offers to fast-track your admission or to secure residence for a payment, that is fraud, and the ethics hotline on the UP site is where it belongs.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UP admission contact number?
The Student Service Centre on 012 420 3111 handles admissions for contact students. Online students call the UPOnline Call Centre on 012 420 8325.
What is the UP admissions email address?
Contact students email ssc@up.ac.za; online students email uponline@up.ac.za. If the problem is with the application system itself, email the ITS Helpdesk at help@it.up.ac.za.
Who do I call if my UP application will not upload documents?
Call the ITS Helpdesk on 012 420 3051 or email help@it.up.ac.za. A technical fault with the portal is not something the Student Service Centre can fix.
How do I check the status of my UP application?
Call the right centre with your application or student number, your identity number, and the programme and year you applied for. Ask what status your application is in and what is outstanding.
Is there a fee to secure a place at UP?
No. Nobody at a public university can guarantee you a place for a fee, and UP takes applications only through its own online application system. Offers of fast-tracked admission or paid residence placement are fraud.
