cidb headquarters and HQ contact number
The cidb headquarters is at 01 Gordon Hood Road, Centurion, Pretoria, and the HQ contact number is 086 100 2432 or 012 482 7200. The cidb publishes no separate careline or hotline other than these numbers and the anonymous fraud line, 0800 112 432. There is no separate Johannesburg office: Gauteng queries go to cidbgp@cidb.org.za.
The cidb’s own site prints two postal addresses. The contact page body gives Post Box 22093, Cnr Napier Rd and Cradock Ave, Lyttelton, Pretoria, 0140, while the site footer gives PO Box 2107, Brooklyn Square, 0075.
No provincial office has its own number
This is the single most useful thing to know before you start dialling. The cidb lists nine provincial offices, each with its own street address, its own manager and its own mailbox. All nine publish the same telephone number, 086 100 2432.
So there is no cidb KZN phone number, no cidb Gauteng phone number and no direct line to any province. The provincial mailbox is the route that reaches a specific office. If you phone, say which province you are calling about.

Four of these offices sit inside provincial Public Works buildings rather than in cidb premises of their own, so ask for the cidb desk at reception.
cidb offices in Durban, the Eastern Cape, Nelspruit and other cities
- cidb Durban: there is no separate Durban office. Durban queries go to the KwaZulu-Natal office in La Lucia, cidbkzn@cidb.org.za.
- cidb Eastern Cape: the office is in Bisho, cidbec@cidb.org.za, open 08:00 to 15:30.
- cidb Nelspruit (Mpumalanga): 41 Marloth Street, Nelspruit, cidbmp@cidb.org.za, open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 15:00. There is no office in Witbank (eMalahleni), so use Nelspruit.
- cidb Bloemfontein (Free State): Langenhoven Park, cidbfs@cidb.org.za.
- cidb Mafikeng (North West): Old Parliament Building, Modiri Molema Road, Mmabatho, cidbnw@cidb.org.za.

cidb office hours: the offices close early
cidb trading hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 15:00 in Gauteng, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape, and 08:00 to 15:30 in Limpopo, the Eastern Cape, North West and the Northern Cape.
Every cidb office closes at 15:00 or 15:30, depending on the province. None is open to 16:00 or 17:00. That catches people out, particularly anyone driving to an office after a site visit. Arriving at half past three means arriving after closing in five of the nine provinces. No cidb office is listed as open on weekends.
Paying for registration, and the fraud line
Contractors pay the cidb to register and to upgrade a grading, which makes this a target for fraud.
The cidb publishes its banking details on its own website, under Related Links. Read them there yourself, on cidb.org.za, and not from an email, a WhatsApp message or a person offering to handle your registration. Bank details circulated by a third party are the standard shape of a payment redirection scam.
Nobody can sell you a grading. Registration and grading are decided against published requirements covering track record and financial capability, and the cidb provides its own grading calculator and joint venture calculator for working out where you fall.
To report fraud or corruption, the cidb publishes an anonymous fraud line on 0800 112 432. It also maintains a Zero Tolerance for Fraud section, a register of recorded transgressions and a list of blacklisted contractors, which are worth checking before you appoint anyone.
What the cidb handles
The Construction Industry Development Board runs the Register of Contractors and the Register of Projects, sets procurement prescripts and standards, and runs contractor development programmes.
Most of the common tasks are online rather than telephonic: cidb online registration, the application forms, requirements for grading, the grading and joint venture calculators, the registered contractor search, and the Register of Projects employer registration. Try those first. A registration status question is usually answered faster by the public register than by waiting on the shared line.
cidb certificate, application forms and upgrade forms
The cidb no longer prints registration certificates. Once a grading is awarded, the contractor’s name is published on the cidb website, and that is where clients check grading and status.
The application forms page, cidb.org.za/contractors/register-of-contractors/application-forms/, has the Grade 1 registration form, the Grade 2 to 9 form, the 3 year renewal form, change of particulars and the refund request. The online service covers new registrations (grades 1 to 9), higher grading (upgrade) applications, 3 year renewals and company updates. You need Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration in good standing. Moratorium requests, appeals and track record transfers must be emailed to your provincial office.
- Registration takes 21 working days for complete, compliant applications. Grade 1 (level 1) applications take 48 hours to be processed and show on the website.
- Registration is valid for 3 years with no grace period. Apply for renewal 3 months before it expires.
- The cidb does not endorse or employ agents. Its nine provincial offices help with applications for free.
- Registration fee amounts are not printed on the cidb contact pages; use the application forms and the banking details page on cidb.org.za.
cidb registered contractors public directory
The Register of Contractors search is at registers.cidb.org.za/PublicContractors/ContractorSearch/. It lists the names, particulars and grading of all registered contractors, and the cidb calls it the only up-to-date and reliable way to check a contractor’s registration.
What to have ready when you contact the cidb
Have your cidb registration number, or your company registration number if you are not yet registered. Say which province your business operates in, since that determines which office holds your file.
For a grading question, have your financial statements and completed project records to hand, because those are what the grading is assessed against.
Email the provincial address rather than phoning if the matter is not urgent. It reaches the people who hold your file directly.
