BizPortal is the online registration platform built by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). It lets you register a new company and, in the same session, pick up tax registration with SARS, a .co.za domain name, a B-BBEE certificate, UIF and Compensation Fund registration, and an introduction to a business bank account. This page covers who actually answers BizPortal queries, which CIPC mailbox handles which problem, and where to go when a registration stalls. Everything below was read from bizportal.gov.za and the CIPC notice it links to on 14 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not CIPC and cannot see or change a registration. For the wider CIPC contact model, including its full list of process mailboxes, see CIPC contact details.

Two things on the BizPortal contact page are worth knowing before you call. First, BizPortal states plainly that it does not accept email queries about the platform itself: the phone line, the live chat and the CIPC enquiry system are the routes. Second, the call centre has no call waiting. When every consultant is busy you are sent to voicemail rather than held in a queue, so an unanswered call is normal and not a sign the number is wrong. Try again later or use the chat.

The same contact page still carries a CIPC notice saying the enquiry system is unavailable and asking customers to email specific units instead. When we checked, enquiries.cipc.co.za was loading its login page, so both routes appear to be in use. If the enquiry system rejects you, fall back to the unit mailboxes in the next section.

Product or service support

BizPortal bundles several services, but it only processes the company registration itself. The partner services are handed on to the organisation that runs them:

  • Company registration: R125 without a name, or R175 including a name reservation, with no documents to upload. BizPortal advertises registration in one day, subject to its terms.
  • Tax registration: every company registered is automatically registered with SARS. Questions about the tax number after that belong with SARS, not CIPC.
  • Domain name: a .co.za name costs R94.75 and must be transferred to a commercial registrar of your choice. The transfer is free, but a name that is not transferred within 12 months is deleted.
  • B-BBEE certificate: free for exempted micro enterprises, meaning private companies and close corporations with turnover of no more than R10 million.
  • UIF and Compensation Fund: free, but only for companies that have employees. A company with no staff is not allowed to register. Follow-up sits with the UIF and the Compensation Fund.
  • Business bank account: an application routed to one of the four large South African banks, which then handles it directly.

When a registration needs a person to look at it, CIPC directs enquiries to the unit that owns the process. Quote your customer code, the enterprise number and the tracking number in every email:

The CIPC notice also lists some mailboxes belonging to named staff members. We have left those out: they are personal addresses, and CIPC itself asks customers not to send enquiries to personal mailboxes.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Most stuck BizPortal registrations trace back to the customer profile rather than the company application. CIPC says every customer must be verified before any transaction is processed, and that includes emailed applications and refund requests. Verification queries go only to enquiries@cipc.co.za; anything else sent there is not answered.

If the email address on your customer code is out of date, you cannot receive the reset that would let you back in. Send resetpassword@cipc.co.za a certified copy of your ID no older than three months together with CIPC’s customer code update form, which is published on cipc.co.za.

Send each enquiry once. CIPC warns that repeating the same email to the same mailbox creates a blockage and makes every query in it take longer.

Escalation route

  1. Log the query by phone, live chat, the enquiry system or the unit mailbox, and keep the reference.
  2. If there is no answer within 10 business days, escalate using the escalation procedure CIPC publishes on cipc.co.za, quoting the original reference.
  3. If CIPC as a state body still fails to deal with it, the Public Protector investigates maladministration on 0800 112 040.

BizPortal registration is done by you, online, at the fees above. Nobody needs your BizPortal password to register a company for you, and a person offering to speed up a registration for an extra fee is not part of CIPC.
