The department publishes no WhatsApp number for the UIF. The contact page on the uFiling portal lists two support mailboxes on the alteram.co.za domain rather than labour.gov.za. The mailboxes above are the ones the department itself publishes.

What the UIF does

The UIF falls under the Department of Employment and Labour. It pays unemployment, maternity, illness and adoption benefits to employees who qualify, and it collects monthly contributions from employers.

The two online systems do different jobs. uFiling (ufiling.labour.gov.za) is for employers, including domestic employers, to register, declare employees and pay contributions. Its FNB, Nedbank and instructed debit payment options are explained on the portal. The portal now warns that employee benefit claims are no longer processed on uFiling. Benefit applications go through UIF Online (uifonline.labour.gov.za), where registration asks whether you have a UIF reference number or CK number. For login trouble, the uFiling login page has Forgot Username and Forgot Password links. If those do not work, email ufiling@labour.gov.za.

Where the UIF head office is

How to follow up a UIF claim or complaint

  1. Apply for benefits on UIF Online, or visit a labour centre, and keep your reference details.
  2. Follow up on 0800 030 007 or uifcallcenter@labour.gov.za, or log a ticket on the Web Self-Service Ticketing System.
  3. If the matter is still unresolved, email uifcomplaints@labour.gov.za or your province’s customer care mailbox, with your earlier correspondence attached.
  4. Report fraud to the department’s hotline on 0860 666 883, or to the Public Service Commission hotline on 0800 701 701, which the department also lists.
