To change your contact details on NSFAS, log in to your myNSFAS account at my.nsfas.org.za, open “my personal details” and update your cellphone number; if that does not work, call NSFAS on 08000 67327 or email info@nsfas.org.za. NSFAS, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, is the state student funding scheme, and it sends important notices to the cellphone number on your myNSFAS account.

Official route to update your NSFAS contact details
The official route is self-service on the myNSFAS portal at my.nsfas.org.za. NSFAS asks students to keep the cellphone number on their account up to date because that is where important notices are sent. NSFAS introduced online updates after students who had lost their handsets or changed numbers could not sign their bursary agreements.
The only step-by-step procedure NSFAS has published is in a media release dated 18 June 2018. The current website only says to keep your contact details up to date, so the screens may look different today. What you need before contacting
- Your myNSFAS username and password. A myNSFAS account is created with your SA ID number, cellphone number and email address.
- The new cellphone number, switched on and with you, because the one-time PIN (OTP) is sent to the new number.
- A number that is not already linked to another NSFAS account. A duplicate number gives an error.
NSFAS warns that you should never share your password or OTP with anyone, including people who claim to work for NSFAS.
Step-by-step process
- Go to my.nsfas.org.za and log in on the “already registered” tab with your username and password.
- Click “my personal details” and go to the cellphone number section.
- Delete the old number, type the new cellphone number and click “update details”.
- Enter the OTP sent to the new number and submit. If the number is already on another account, you will see an error.
- If you cannot update the number online, contact NSFAS on 08000 67327 or info@nsfas.org.za and ask how to update your details manually.
Escalation route
NSFAS does not publish a separate escalation line for contact detail changes. Use the student enquiries line 08000 67327, info@nsfas.org.za or WhatsApp +27 63 093 5671. For questions about payments and balances, email collections@nsfas.org.za. How do I change my contact details on NSFAS?
