That one number and one mailbox serve the whole country: SACE’s head office, which also serves Pretoria, is at Crossway Office Park, Block 1, 240 Lenchen Avenue, Centurion, open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30. How to get in contact with SACE in South Africa
SACE runs one telephone number and one general mailbox for the whole country. The number, 012 663 9517, is listed both as SACE’s telephone number and as its call centre, and every provincial office routes through it. Registration queries, certificates, payments and complaints about registration all start on that line or at info@sace.org.za.
SACE is established under the South African Council for Educators Act 31 of 2000, as amended, and publishes a Code of Professional Ethics along with a procedure for lodging a complaint against an educator. It is the statutory body every teacher in South Africa registers with, which is why most SACE business, including registration and certificates, is handled by telephone, email or post rather than at a counter.

The Eastern Cape office has no direct East London number, and that is why one cannot be found. SACE lists its provincial offices as street addresses only. Not one of them publishes a telephone number, a fax number or an email address, and the Eastern Cape office is no exception.
Treat the Bonza Bay address as a place you can walk into, not a place you can phone. Call 012 663 9517 first to confirm that what you need can be done there before travelling.

That is the whole provincial network. Five provinces have no SACE office at all: the Western Cape, Mpumalanga, North West, the Northern Cape and, apart from the head office itself, Gauteng.
Educators in those provinces deal with SACE by telephone, email or post. SACE has no office in Cape Town or Johannesburg, so for SACE contact details in either city, use 012 663 9517 or info@sace.org.za.
Where the SACE head office is and its hours
SACE lists no separate Pretoria office: the head office at Crossway Office Park, Block 1, 240 Lenchen Avenue, Centurion, is its Tshwane office. The SACE Pretoria contact number is therefore the same, 012 663 9517. Operating hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30.
The office closes at 16:30, half an hour earlier than many government offices, so a late-afternoon call needs to be made before then. SACE says it accommodates walk-in registrations only in limited numbers and prefers applications by registered mail.
Note that the physical and postal addresses use different postal codes, 0157 for Crossway Office Park and 0046 for the private bag. Use the private bag for post and do not post documents to the street address.
Applying for a SACE certificate
When you apply for a SACE certificate or letter, SACE asks that your email address and contact number are clearly stated on the application form. That is what lets the office send you a soft copy of the certificate while you wait for the original to arrive by post. Leave those fields blank or illegible and you will simply wait for the post. The application form is downloadable from the SACE website.
SACE also publishes a verification facility for SACE registration certificates and letters, which is the right route for an employer checking that a certificate is genuine.
SACE online registration on eServices
New online applications, registration status updates and registration extensions go through the government eServices portal, eservices.gov.za, linked from the SACE home page. The paper registration form is downloadable from sace.org.za. SACE posts registration certificates to educators about six weeks from the date it receives the application.
Provisional registration is granted to final-year students, and conditional registration to employed specialists without teaching qualifications. All educators pay a monthly levy of R10.00 in addition to the once-off registration fee. SACE publishes no separate renewal email address: extensions go through eServices, and other queries to info@sace.org.za or 012 663 9517.
SACE number check and registration status
SACE publishes no public online SACE number search on sace.org.za. To verify a SACE registration certificate or letter, email verification@sace.org.za with the educator’s surname and initials, ID number and SACE number. To update your own registration status, use eservices.gov.za.
SACE payment details
Pay SACE online at sace.org.za/payments-page, choosing whether you are a South African or foreign citizen. For a bank deposit, use the banking details SACE publishes on sace.org.za, with your ID number as the reference, and email the proof of payment and a copy of your ID to revenue@sace.org.za.

www.sace.gov.za is SACE’s Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) Management System site, where educators sign up and log in. Its line is 086 1007 223. The main SACE website is sace.org.za.
Reporting fraud to SACE
SACE publishes a dedicated address, Fraudalert@sace.org.za, alongside its call centre number.
Fraudulent SACE certificates are the obvious risk, since SACE registration is a requirement for teaching. If someone offers to obtain a SACE certificate for you for a fee, without the application process, that is what this address exists for.
SACE complaints email address
To complain about an educator, email ethics@sace.org.za or write to the Chief Executive Officer, SACE, Private Bag X127, Centurion, 0046. Anyone, including learners and community members, can lodge a complaint, and it can be anonymous. Complaints may be faxed, emailed, posted, hand delivered or made by telephone. The educator is asked for a written reply within 10 days (5 in some cases) before the Ethics Committee decides on investigation, mediation or discipline.
