Note the domain. The reporting mailbox runs on thehotline.co.za, an independent provider, not on an siu.org.za address. That is deliberate: the report does not land in an SIU inbox that an implicated official might see.

Look at the last three. Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Mahikeng are all published with 012 numbers — a Pretoria dialling code — which means those provincial lines answer through head office rather than in the province. That is what the SIU publishes, and it is worth knowing before you assume you have a local call.
The website address itself
Use www.siu.org.za. The bare siu.org.za without the www returns a 502 error, and there is no siu.gov.za. It is an org.za domain despite the SIU being a state body.
What the SIU can and cannot do
- It investigates only what the President has referred to it by proclamation. Without a proclamation covering the institution and the period, it has no mandate over your complaint.
- It recovers money for the state through the Special Tribunal and the High Court. It is a civil recovery body.
- It does not prosecute. Criminal prosecution is the National Prosecuting Authority, and a crime is reported to the SAPS.
- It does not resolve a personal dispute with a government department. That is the Public Protector, or the department’s own complaints route.
Reporting well
A useful report names the institution, the contract or tender number if there is one, the period, the amounts, and how you know. Say plainly whether you are willing to be contacted. Do not send original documents, and do not confront the person you are reporting — that is the fastest way for records to disappear.
Tenders and jobs are separate
SIU supplier registration, quotations and tenders are handled through the Supply Chain Management section of the website, and vacancies through Careers. Neither goes via the hotline, and the SIU does not charge anyone to register as a supplier or to apply for a post.
