What this organisation provides
- Family medicine – a two-doctor general practice covering everyday illness, chronic disease management, preventive care and referrals.
- Practice numbers: 0942448 and 0706078, both published. Your medical scheme needs one of these for a claim, and a two-doctor practice may bill under either, so check which appears on your account.
- HPCSA registration numbers are published for both doctors – Dr Walsh MP0412856 and Dr De Ridder MP0781967. Very few practices publish these, and it means you can verify either practitioner with the Health Professions Council without having to ask.
The rooms are inside the Bloemfontein Mediclinic building, which is why the practice can send you a few doors down to an emergency room rather than across town when a consultation turns out to be more serious than expected.

- 10177 – the practice labels this Fire Department. Nationally, 10177 is the ambulance and emergency medical services number. It is the right number to call for a medical emergency; just do not expect it to be a fire line. From a mobile, 112 reaches the emergency call centre.
The practice draws a useful distinction on its own page: a life-threatening emergency means going straight to the Mediclinic emergency room or calling an ambulance, while an urgency means phoning the landline and telling reception you need to be seen urgently, so they can advise when to come.
Support and escalation routes
- Ask for the referral letter before seeing a specialist – most schemes pay a specialist visit at a better rate, or only at all, when a GP has referred. With the rooms inside the Mediclinic, most referrals are to specialists in the same building.
- Complaints about professional conduct or standard of care go to the Health Professions Council of South Africa on 012 389 9300, quoting the relevant MP number above.
- Scheme disputes go to the Council for Medical Schemes after the scheme’s own appeal, quoting the practice number that appears on your account.
