Each authorisation type has its own international number, all in the 012 679 41 range except chronic, which sits on 011. Getting the right one matters if you are calling from overseas, because none of the 0860 or 0800 numbers work from outside the country.
Profmed prints two versions of one number
Check this before you dial, because both appear on the same page.
The “Get in touch” pop-up that appears on every page of the site reads 0861 776 363. The contact page’s own entries read 0860 776 363, and give it three times, for pre-authorisation, disease risk management and the Tums2Tots programme.
The digits are identical. Only the prefix differs. We are not guessing which one is right, but the contact page’s 0860 version is the one Profmed publishes consistently, and the pop-up is the single outlier.

Providers and members call the same number. The difference is the mailbox: a practice chasing a payment should use the provider address rather than the general one, or the query joins the member queue.

Save 082 911 before you need it. It is the emergency transport line and is not the same as the client services number.

Note that the post does not go to Johannesburg. The executive office is in Parktown, but the private bag is at Lyttelton in Centurion, next to the other office. Address post to the private bag, not to Eton Road.
The obvious contact web address serves a photograph
This one is worth knowing if a link has ever dumped you somewhere strange.
Typing the “contact” address on profmed.co.za redirects to a JPEG image file sitting in the site’s uploads folder. It is a permanent redirect, not a glitch, so it will keep happening.
The working page is the “contact us” address, with the “us” on the end. Use the site’s own menu rather than typing an address.

The fraud line runs through an outside whistleblowing service, which is why that email address is not on the Profmed domain. That is expected and not a sign of anything wrong.
Profmed publishes its financial services provider number as 43918, which is the detail to quote if you are confirming you are dealing with the scheme itself.
Profmed also runs member programmes on their own numbers. The Tums2Tots baby and toddler programme is on 0860 776 363, the same line as pre-authorisation, so say which one you are calling about when it answers.
The scheme describes itself as one of the longest established in South Africa, with over 60 years behind it and ten benefit options split between five Premium and five Savvy hospital network plans. Which option you are on changes what needs authorising, so have it to hand.
