What this organisation provides

South32 is a mining and metals company listed on the JSE, ASX and LSE. In Southern Africa it has three operations. South Africa Manganese runs the open-cut Mamatwan mine and the underground Wessels mine in the Kalahari Basin, part of the Hotazel Manganese Mines consortium in which South32 holds 44.4%. Hillside Aluminium in Richards Bay, about 180 kilometres north of Durban, is wholly owned and is the largest aluminium smelter in the southern hemisphere. Mozal Aluminium in Mozambique was placed on care and maintenance in March 2026.

On 1 July 2026 South32 announced a binding conditional agreement to sell its aluminium value chain assets, including Hillside Aluminium, to Alcoa Corporation. South32 expects completion in the second half of its 2027 financial year, subject to conditions.

The recruitment process, as South32 describes it: the Talent Acquisition team shortlists applicants and may hold a phone screen, then there is at least one interview with the hiring lead. Due diligence checks follow, including copies of trade certificates or academic qualifications, before any offer is made. South32 says the process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks from the date the advert closes to an offer letter, with interview feedback usually within 7 days. It runs graduate programmes in South Africa, and many operations offer apprenticeships and vacation work for students.

South32 says it is aware of recent or ongoing employment scams targeting people in South Africa, where people pose as company representatives and ask for money to progress a job application. It also warns of investment scams using its name. The only legitimate way to invest is to buy South32 shares through a broker.
