TAU Mining is an opencast mining contractor, not a mine owner. It publishes one switchboard and a set of role mailboxes split by what you want, which makes it unusually easy to reach the right desk if you pick correctly.
TAU Mining contact details
- Telephone: +27 10 753 2018
- General enquiries: [email protected], or [email protected]
- Suppliers: [email protected]
- Tenders: [email protected]
- Careers: [email protected]
- Office: 1st Floor, Building 18, 20 Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, 2191
Use the specific mailbox rather than the general one. A supplier approach sent to info@ is forwarded at best; sent to suppliers@ it reaches the people who actually onboard vendors. The same applies to a tender enquiry, which has its own address for a reason.
What TAU actually does
It describes itself as a turnkey solution mining contractor supported by original equipment manufacturers, working in South Africa large open pit mines. Knowing the service line you need shortens the conversation:
- Planning and production scheduling, and surveying
- Drill and blast functions
- Load, haul and dump functions
- Rental of equipment with maintenance included
- Construction of photovoltaic plants
That last one is worth noticing. A mining contractor building solar plants reflects where the industry is going: mines are increasingly generating their own power, and the earthmoving skills transfer directly.
Working for TAU
Applications go through [email protected] and the careers section of the TAU site. Mining contracting is a sector with heavy recruitment fraud, so the usual rule applies with force: nobody legitimate charges you for an application, a medical, a placement or transport to site. A real offer is in writing on company letterhead after an interview, and induction and medicals are arranged and paid for by the employer.
Be equally sceptical of anyone claiming to place you on a mine site for a fee. The mine appoints the contractor, and the contractor employs the people; there is no third party in between selling positions.
Health, safety and grievances
TAU publishes an approach covering health and safety, human rights, communities, and ethics and compliance. If you are working on a site and the concern is safety, the Mine Health and Safety Act gives every employee the right to leave a working place that is dangerous, and health and safety representatives exist precisely to raise these matters. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy inspectorate takes reports about conditions at a mine independently of the contractor and the mine owner.
Supplying a mining contractor
Expect a formal vendor qualification process rather than a purchase order off a phone call. Have your company registration, tax clearance, B-BBEE certificate and proof of relevant certification ready before you make the approach, and send a short capability statement rather than a catalogue.
