Telecom Customer Care Numbers

Official source onlyIndependent directoryPublished by Silas T Nkoana, Cape TownReport a wrong number

To contact Telecom Customer Care Numbers, call 081 610 1000 (Rain Customer Engagement Centre).

These are the customer care routes South Africa’s mobile networks publish on their own sites, with the free on-network numbers listed first.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not any of the companies listed here and cannot act on your behalf. Everything on this page is a routing aid so you reach the right official channel with the right information in hand.

Who actually handles this

Your own network. The numbers below are free when dialled from that network’s SIM, which matters when you have no airtime. The second table is for calling from another network or from outside the country.

What to do, in order

  1. Use the on-network number from the phone with that SIM in it. It is free and it identifies your number automatically.
  2. If you are calling about someone else’s account, expect to be refused unless you are the registered account holder or authorised on it.
  3. Have your ID number ready. Networks verify who they are speaking to before discussing an account.
  4. Ask for a reference number for anything that is not resolved on the call.

What to have ready before you make contact

  • The number the query is about.
  • Whether it is pre-paid or on a contract.
  • Your ID number for verification.
  • Any previous reference numbers.

Free from your own network

Every route in this table was taken from the organisation’s own official contact page and checked on 21 August 2026. Contact details change, so confirm on the official site before relying on one for anything urgent.

Who owns what on a South African connection

  • The mobile network (Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom, Rain) owns the spectrum, the towers and your number. Anything to do with the SIM, the number, coverage or a mobile account is theirs.
  • The fibre network operator owns the physical fibre in your street and the box on your wall. It installs and repairs the line, but its customer is your ISP, not you. It holds no record of you and will refer you back.
  • Your ISP sells you the internet service, holds your account, bills you and owns the relationship. For a fibre connection, this is almost always the party you should be contacting.

Most wasted time on a connection problem comes from contacting the wrong one of these four. Working out which layer your problem sits in, before you dial, is worth more than any number on this page.

Common mistakes that cost time

  • Taking a customer care number from a search advert. That is precisely where planted numbers sit.
  • Calling an on-network short code from abroad, where it will not connect. Use the international form.
  • Calling about someone else’s account without being authorised on it.
  • Ending a call without a reference number for anything left unresolved.

The scam to watch for

Check any customer care number against the network’s own website. Numbers that look official are planted in search adverts and directory listings precisely because people look them up in a hurry. The routes on this page were taken from each operator’s own site.

If it is not resolved

It handles complaints against operators, but only after you have given the operator a chance to resolve the matter first, and it will ask for the operator’s reference number.

Escalation works on evidence. Keep a short written log of every contact: the date, the channel you used, the name of the person you spoke to and the reference number you were given. Every formal complaints process asks for exactly that history, and having it ready is usually the difference between a fast resolution and starting over.

Frequently asked questions

Are these numbers free?

The on-network numbers are free from that network’s own SIM. Calling from another network is charged at your normal rate.

Which number do I use from overseas?

Use the international form in the second table. Short codes like 135 and 808 do not work from outside South Africa.

Can I get help without airtime?

Yes. The on-network numbers are free, and every network has an app and online channels that work over wifi.

The contact routes on this page were checked against each organisation’s official source on 21 August 2026. Where a detail has changed, the official source is always the authority.
