Vodacom has no dedicated debit order phone line: debit order queries go to Customer Care on 082 135 (free from a Vodacom phone), or +27 82 135 from abroad, and proof of payment for a bounced debit order goes to pop@vodacom.co.za. Vodacom collects contract payments by DebiCheck debit order, and a DebiCheck mandate is approved, cancelled or suspended at your own bank.

This page covers debit orders and payments only. For Vodacom’s other numbers, see the main Vodacom contact details page.

Official Vodacom debit order route

Vodacom uses DebiCheck. When you take a contract, a mandate request goes to the account holder’s bank, which asks you to confirm and approve it. The mandate threshold is the maximum Vodacom can debit. If a bill is higher than the threshold, you get an amendment mandate; otherwise that month is collected by a normal EFT debit order.

If you do not approve or respond to the DebiCheck mandate, Vodacom may submit an RMS or EFT debit order instead. An RMS mandate, which is an unapproved DebiCheck, can be disputed.

For anything about your Vodacom account, call Customer Care on 082 135, or use the WhatsApp button on the payments help page, which opens a chat on 082 009 8624. If your account is in arrears, Subscriber Collections is on 082 1946. Cancellations are handled on 082 1958.

What you need before contacting Vodacom

Have your Vodacom account number ready. It is the reference for manual payments and must go in the subject line when you email proof of payment.

It also helps to know why a debit order bounced. Vodacom lists three reasons: insufficient funds, bank processing issues, or late submission after the cut-off. Late resubmissions process the next working day, and a penalty fee is charged for each returned debit.

Before you cancel a debit order at your bank, note that cancelling or suspending a DebiCheck debit order does not cancel a contract that is still in term, and does not stop Vodacom collecting amounts you owe.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. After your order is activated, approve the DebiCheck mandate request your bank sends you.
  2. If a debit order bounced, pay by EFT: add Vodacom (Pty) Ltd as a public beneficiary and use your 9-digit Vodacom account number as the reference. You can also pay at a store, bank or retailer.
  3. Allow up to 48 hours for an EFT to reflect. If it has not reflected after 48 hours, email your proof of payment to pop@vodacom.co.za with your account number in the subject line.
  4. If you are in arrears, set up a Promise to Pay through TOBi (choose “Payment Arrangement”), dial *135# and choose My Account, then Arrears Self Help, or call 082 135.
  5. To stop or suspend a DebiCheck debit order, do it at your bank. The bank notifies Vodacom.

Escalation route

Vodacom does not publish a separate escalation line for debit orders. For an arrears account, contact Subscriber Collections on 082 1946. If you think a debit or a message about your account is fraudulent, email FraudDisputes@vodacom.co.za, which Vodacom lists for fraud disputes and for reporting fraudulent communications sent on its network.

For other networks and providers, browse the telecoms and internet hub or the telecoms directory V listings.
