Vuma is a fibre network operator. It builds and runs the fibre infrastructure in the areas it covers, but it does not sell internet services directly to households β€” that is done by internet service providers who use the Vuma network. Knowing which of the two you need is the difference between a query being resolved and a query being bounced.

Official contact channels

Vuma publishes the number above for technical assistance and for reporting an outage in your area. It does not publish a general email address on its contact page, so the phone route and the ISP directory are the channels it actually supports.

What this organisation provides

Vuma operates fibre-to-the-home and fibre-to-the-business networks across Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, along with a published network status page. Its role ends at the infrastructure: the line into your home is Vuma’s, while the account, the package, the billing and the router are your ISP’s.

Vuma states this directly on its contact page: “Please contact your Internet Service Provider with any issues you are experiencing.” It then publishes a directory of ISPs that operate over its network, with a contact number for each β€” including Afrihost, Axxess, Adept, Accelerit, Active Fibre, Amobia, ASAP Internet, Atomic Access, BallitoISP, Bitco and Blaze Internet, among others.

The practical consequence is that most household problems β€” a slow line, a billing query, a package change, a router that will not connect β€” belong with the ISP, not with Vuma. Calling the network operator about an account it does not hold simply adds a step.

Address and operating information

Vuma does not publish a walk-in address for customer support on its contact page, and it does not publish contact-centre operating hours there either. Coverage is checked through the address lookup on its website rather than by phone, and the network status page is the fastest way to see whether an outage in your area is already known.

Support and escalation routes

Before you call either party, note whether the lights on the fibre network terminal in your home are on and what colour they are, and whether neighbours on the same network are affected. Both Vuma and your ISP will ask, and an area-wide outage is diagnosed very differently from a single failed line.

Use this order. If your service is down, check the network status page first β€” a known outage needs no call. If the outage is not listed, contact your ISP, since they hold your account and can log a fault against your line. Contact Vuma’s customer care team directly for a physical infrastructure problem such as damage to a line, a manhole or street-level equipment, or where your ISP has confirmed the fault sits with the network.

If your ISP and Vuma disagree about where a fault sits and it remains unresolved, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa regulates the sector and handles consumer complaints about licensees.
