Coverage checkervumatel.co.zaConfirms the real product at your address and who sells it

The information address is the relevant one here. Vumatel’s Code of Conduct undertakes that its range of services and products on offer, the tariff rates applicable to each, and the terms and conditions attached to them can be obtained from its websites or by email request to info@vumatel.co.za at no charge. That gives you a documented way to ask whether a product name is real.

How to check any Vuma product name

  1. Type vumatel.co.za yourself rather than following a link from an advert, a message or a search result.
  2. Run your address through the coverage checker. It returns the actual product serving your line and the providers permitted to sell on it.
  3. Compare the name. If the product you were offered is not Core or Reach, ask the seller which of the two it is built on and who the provider is.
  4. Ask Vuma in writing. Email info@vumatel.co.za and ask whether the product and the seller are recognised. Keep the reply.

Some unfamiliar names are simply a provider’s own marketing wrapped around a standard Vuma line, which is legitimate. Others are invented to make an offer sound official. The check above separates the two without you having to guess.

Best contact route by issue

  • Verifying a product or an offer: info@vumatel.co.za, in writing, so you have a record.
  • Coverage and which providers serve you: the coverage checker on vumatel.co.za.
  • Price, contract and package: the internet service provider, since Vuma publishes no retail pricing.
  • A fault on an existing line: the network status page, then 010 746 8862 or your provider.
  • Anything formal: complaints@vumatel.co.za, which starts a documented process.

Complaints and escalation

If you were sold a package under a name that turns out not to exist, the complaint lies against the seller rather than against Vuma. Approach the provider first with your order, the advertisement and your proof of payment. Where Vuma’s own conduct or its network is involved, write to complaints@vumatel.co.za with your full particulars and contact details, your relationship with Vumatel and any reference numbers, your reasons in enough detail to be assessed, and supporting evidence.

Vumatel undertakes to acknowledge within three business days with a reference number and to determine the matter within fourteen business days. Only after that may you escalate to ICASA on 012 568 3000, at consumer@icasa.org.za, or through icasa.org.za, with referral to its Complaints and Compliance Committee where matters stay unresolved. Where you have lost money to a seller rather than a licensee, the South African Police Service and your bank are the more relevant routes.

What to prepare

  • The advert or message naming the product, with the date and where you saw it.
  • The seller’s details: company name, domain, phone number and bank account you were asked to pay.
  • Your service address, so coverage and product can be confirmed.
  • Proof of payment and any signed order.
  • Any reference number from an earlier enquiry, with the date.

Scam and verification checks

An invented product name attached to a real network brand is a recognisable pattern. The unfamiliar word makes the offer sound like a special tier you have not heard of, while the operator’s name supplies the credibility.

  • Verify the product before the price. If the name does not exist, the price is irrelevant.
  • Never transfer money to a personal bank account. Licensed providers invoice from company accounts.
  • Check the domain letter by letter and be wary of social media pages using an operator’s logo.
  • Never disclose one-time passwords, card numbers, banking login details or your ID number to claim a package.
  • Preserve evidence and act quickly. If money has already left your account, notify your bank immediately and report it to the South African Police Service.
