Services and responsibilities
A high court hears serious criminal matters, high value civil claims, divorces and appeals from magistrate courts. The Mmabatho magistrate court, on 018 387 8000, is a separate court that cannot deal with high court work.
Office and address information
The court is at the corner of Hector Peterson and University Drive, Mmabatho, with post to Private Bag X2010, Mmabatho, 2735. The magistrate court is also on University Drive, so the street is shared between the two courts.
Applications and escalation
The high court number begins 010 494, a Johannesburg area code, rather than the 018 code the town uses. The Office of the Chief Justice appears to run several divisions on that 010 494 range, including Johannesburg on 010 494 8486, so an 010 number for a court outside Gauteng is not an error.
