Cathay is the Hong Kong based airline flying to and from South Africa. The passenger line handles general enquiries for both local and overseas passengers, covering bookings, changes and travel queries, and the airline also runs a chat channel on its website. Baggage services are listed separately from the general enquiry route on its site, so a delayed or damaged bag has its own process.

Address and operating information

The passenger enquiry line operates Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 20:00. The travel agency line operates Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Note that the passenger number is a Cape Town landline rather than a toll free number, and Cathay warns that an overseas charge may apply if you call it from outside South Africa.

Support and escalation routes

Take a booking or service complaint to the passenger line and keep the booking reference. If the ticket was bought through a travel agent rather than directly from the airline, the agent is your counterparty for changes and refunds and should be approached first. Air travel complaints that the airline does not resolve can be taken to the National Consumer Commission, since a ticket is a consumer agreement, and complaints about an accredited travel agent can go to the Association of Southern African Travel Agents.
