Yellow Pages in South Africa is now Yep!, and yellowpages.co.za redirects to mall.yep.co.za. It is no longer a directory of telephone numbers: it is a marketplace where you search for a service provider, request a quote and pay through the platform. That change explains why looking up a number on it no longer works the way it used to.
How to contact Yep!
- The contact form on the Yep! site, which is the only published route
- The form splits into a consumer route and a merchant route, so pick the right one
- There is also an FAQ section and a Help section on the site
- A Crime Hotline link appears in the site footer
No telephone number and no email address are published anywhere on the Yep! site. The form asks for your name, phone number, email, what you need support with and a description of up to 500 characters, and support then contacts you.
It is a Telkom business
This is the useful thing to know, and it is not obvious from the branding. The Yep! contact form is hosted on telkom.co.za, at a Yep! page on the Telkom site. So Yep! sits inside Telkom, and a query that the Yep! form does not resolve can reasonably be escalated through Telkom customer service rather than left unanswered.
If you are looking for a business number
Yep! now lists businesses with their trading address and service categories, and routes you to a Get a Quote button rather than to a telephone number. If you specifically want to phone a business, the platform is the wrong tool: search for the business own website instead. That is a genuine loss of function compared with the old printed and online Yellow Pages, and it is worth saying plainly rather than sending you round in circles.
If you are a business listed on Yep!
- Yep! publishes an Open an online store route and a Business Products section for merchants
- Use the merchant side of the contact form rather than the consumer side, or your query lands in the wrong queue
- Check what is listed against your business, because an incorrect address or category on a marketplace costs you enquiries
Before you hire through any marketplace
A listing is not a vetting. Confirm the trader details independently before money changes hands: ask for a company registration number, check any trade registration the work requires, and get the quote in writing with a scope and a price rather than accepting a verbal figure.
- Electrical work needs a registered electrician who can issue a Certificate of Compliance
- Plumbing work that requires a compliance certificate needs a PIRB or IOPSA registered plumber
- Never pay the full amount upfront, and never into an account different from the one on the quote
Paying through the platform where that is offered gives you a record and a dispute route. Paying a trader directly outside the platform after finding them on it gives you neither.
