Xero is cloud accounting software used widely by South African small businesses and their accountants. The short answer to the question people actually ask: Xero publishes no support telephone number, in South Africa or anywhere else. Support is deliberately case-based and online.
Official contact channels
- Support runs through Xero Central, the companys help site
- Raise a case using the Contact Xero Support button at the foot of any Xero Central article
- Support is described as free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- You can ask to be phoned back: supply your number, your location and a preferred time
- Unresolved escalation address published by the company: [email protected]
The call-back is the closest thing to phone support that exists. Xero does not take inbound calls, so a number found on a directory claiming to be Xero support is not Xero. Raise the case first; the phone conversation, if you need one, happens on their outbound call.
What this organisation provides
- Cloud accounting: invoicing, bank reconciliation, expense claims and reporting
- Bank feeds from South African banks, and VAT-ready reporting
- Payroll and inventory features depending on the plan
- An app marketplace of connected third-party tools
- A directory of Xero-certified advisors and bookkeepers
Draw a line between a software problem and an accounting problem. Xero support will help with how the product behaves; it will not tell you how to treat a transaction. That is a question for your accountant, and the advisor directory exists for exactly that reason.
Address and operating information
- Xero is a New Zealand company, listed in Australia, operating internationally
- It runs a South African product edition but publishes no South African office address for support
- Support cases are handled by a global team rather than a local call centre
- Subscriptions are managed inside the product, not by an account manager
- The company runs a partner programme for accounting and bookkeeping practices
Because you are contracting with a foreign supplier for an online service, keep your own copies of invoices and correspondence. There is no local branch to walk into, and everything you can later rely on is what passed through the case system or your email.
Support and escalation routes
- First: search Xero Central, then raise a case from an article
- If a case stalls, the company publishes [email protected] as a direct escalation route
- Billing disputes are handled through the subscription and billing area of your own account
- Data and privacy questions fall under POPIA, enforced by the Information Regulator of South Africa
- A complaint about an accountant or bookkeeper who uses Xero is a matter for their professional body, such as SAICA or SAIPA, not for Xero
Cancel a subscription inside the product rather than by stopping the card payment. A failed debit does not end the contract, and subscriptions that lapse this way tend to resurface as an arrears balance rather than a clean exit.
