Usave runs one customer care line for the whole chain, and it is open on Sundays and public holidays — which most retail contact centres are not.

Usave contact details

Toll-free, but only from a landline

Usave is careful about this and so should you be. The number is described as toll-free when using a landline. From a mobile an 0800 number is not always free, depending on your operator and your package, and a long hold can cost real money. If you have a landline, use it. If you do not, the feedback form is the free route.

There is no store-level number

Usave does not publish a number for an individual store, so say which store you mean in your first sentence — the town and the shopping centre. A complaint about a price, a product or a member of staff that does not name the branch and the date cannot be investigated by anyone, and the agent will simply ask you for it.

Usave is part of the Shoprite group

Usave is the group’s small-format discount chain, so its buying, its private label products and its systems sit inside the wider Shoprite business. Practically, that means a product recall, a supplier issue or a group-wide promotion may be handled at group level, but you still start on the Usave number and let them route it.

Read the privacy note on their contact page

Usave asks explicitly that you do not send information it has not requested. That is good advice in both directions. When you complain, send what identifies the transaction — the store, the date, the till slip number, the product and its barcode — and nothing else. Do not send your identity number, your bank details or a photograph of your card to any retailer’s contact form.

For a product problem, keep the packaging

If it is not resolved
