The national Department of Health’s contact page carries no provincial or facility directory either. No number is guessed here to fill the gap.

The 0800 029 999 hotline is the one to use. It runs around the clock in five languages, it is free from any phone, and it is staffed to route a caller to the right provincial structure – which is exactly the step the broken provincial website is blocking.
A mental health admission is not usually a phone call
Admission to a specialised psychiatric hospital in South Africa runs through the Mental Health Care Act, and it starts somewhere else: at a district hospital, a clinic, a magistrate’s court or with the police. A family member phoning the hospital directly to arrange an admission will normally be sent back to the referring facility, because the referral carries the assessment and the paperwork. If someone needs help now, that is a 10177 ambulance call, or 112 from a cellphone.
Tracing a patient already admitted
The institution that made the referral holds the file reference, and it is the practical route to the ward. Ask the referring hospital or clinic for the admission reference and the ward name before trying the hospital switchboard. If the referral came through a court, the case number does the same job.
What a broken provincial website costs you
It is worth being precise about the failure, because it changes what you should do. The domain is not gone – it resolves, and a web server answers. What fails is the encrypted connection: every request to port 80 is redirected to HTTPS, and the HTTPS handshake is then refused before any page is served. A browser will show a security warning or simply refuse; there is no way for a member of the public to click past it to a working page. That means every provincial health notice, facility list, tender and media release published there is unreachable to everyone, not just to this directory.
The practical consequence: if a Northern Cape number was given to you by a provincial official, it may well be correct – but nothing on the public web can confirm it right now. Write it down with the name and date of whoever gave it to you, and treat that note as the source rather than any listing site.
