Its customer care line is 0800 204 679 (toll free) and its WhatsApp number is 060 070 2440. Each Atlas branch also has its own number in the 087 701 range and its own @atcorp.co.za mailbox, listed on that branch’s page in the branch locator. Atlas does not publish hours for the call centre.
Atlas Finance says it will never ask for an upfront fee, that asking for one is illegal, and that scammers pretend to be Atlas. It also says it does not pay loans out in cash; approved loans are paid onto a Mastercard NuCard. Anyone asking you to pay money before a loan is released is not Atlas Finance. Report it on the Atlas fraud form.
What this organisation provides
Atlas Finance (Pty) Ltd (registration 2007/028142/07) was founded in Johannesburg in 1994 and trades as Atlas Finance and Makulu Finance. It offers short-term personal and cash loans from R500 to R20,000, repaid over one to nine months, and domestic worker loans of up to R4,000. It also offers cross-border money transfers, a debt review clearance service, and credit life and funeral cover underwritten by Guardrisk Life. Atlas says it does not offer vehicle or business loans.
To apply you need your original ID (or passport and work permit), three months’ bank statements and your latest payslip. Atlas runs credit and affordability checks, does not lend to people under debt review and does not accept SASSA grants as income.
Several other South African businesses use the Atlas name, including printing and fastener companies. They are not connected to Atlas Finance; check the name on the business’s own site before you call.

- Branches: the branch locator on atlasfinance.co.za lists more than 300 branches by province.
- Branch hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 to 16:30, Sunday closed. Atlas’s contact page gives Saturday and public holidays as 8:00 to 13:00, but its branch locator page says Saturdays 8:00 to 11:00, so phone the branch before a Saturday visit.
The NCR register still shows an older Johannesburg city centre address for Atlas Finance. Atlas’s own terms, PAIA manual and policy pages all give the Saxonwold head office.
Support and escalation routes
Atlas’s complaint management framework says there is no charge to lodge a complaint. It sets out this order:
- Complain to Atlas Finance first on 0800 204 679, customercare@atcorp.co.za or info@atcorp.co.za, and keep the reference.
- For credit life or funeral cover, the insurer Guardrisk takes complaints on 0860 333 361 or complaints@guardrisk.co.za.
- If the complaint is not resolved, the National Financial Ombud Scheme takes it on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
- Atlas also lists the FSCA (012 428 8000, info@fsca.co.za), the FAIS Ombud (012 726 5000, info@faisombud.co.za) and, for personal information complaints, the Information Regulator (010 023 5200).
