Opmed Contact Details

Opmed, the Optimum Medical Scheme, does not publish a public phone number, email address or website. It is the in-house medical scheme of the State Security Agency (SSA), and the only public number for the organisation it sits in is the SSA switchboard, +27 (0)12 427 4000. The domain opmed.co.za is not a scheme website: on 16 September 2026 it showed a parked page offering the domain for sale. We read ssa.gov.za and an SSA tender document on the government eTenders portal on 16 September 2026.

Because Opmed is a closed scheme for SSA members, member queries are normally handled inside the agency. If you are a member or a dependant, use the channels your employer gave you. Numbers for “Opmed” shown by business directories could not be confirmed on any SSA source, so we do not list them. Do not send ID numbers, medical records or banking details to opmed.co.za or to anyone who contacts you claiming to act for it through that domain.

What this organisation provides

An SSA invitation to bid (SSA/29/2023-24) describes Opmed in its own words. The main points:

• Opmed is a self-administered in-house medical scheme for members of the State Security Agency.
• It is managed as a service benefit and is subsidised by government, so it must follow government procurement policy.
• It is exempt from the application of the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998, but says it is guided by that Act’s requirements.
• It administers all scheme functions itself on the MIP Healthcare System, and an internal OPMED Management Control Board is responsible for governance.
• Because of security policy, its system has no direct link to outside systems and data may not leave the premises; it exchanges data with service providers through batch processing and FTP.

The same document invited accredited managed care organisations to run a five year hypertension programme for the scheme, including a 24 hour emergency access hotline. It does not name the provider appointed, so we cannot give that hotline number.

Address and operating information

The tender document places Opmed at SSA headquarters: Musanda Complex, 1 Joe Nhlanhla Street, Pretoria 0181. It gives this as the reception where bid documents are delivered, not as a walk-in office for members, and the SSA site publishes no public visiting hours. The SSA contact page also lists careers@ssa.gov.za for job applications and NOC@ssa.gov.za for vetting, security clearances and operational information; neither is a medical scheme channel.

Neither the SSA site nor the tender document publishes a claims address for doctors, hospitals or pharmacies. A practice treating an Opmed member should get the claims route from the member or the scheme itself, not from a directory listing.

Support and escalation routes

1. Members start with the scheme through the SSA’s internal channels, or through the switchboard on +27 (0)12 427 4000, and keep a record of who they spoke to.
2. If a benefit or claim dispute is not resolved, ask for the decision and the reasons in writing.
3. The Council for Medical Schemes handles complaints about registered schemes on 0861 123 267 or complaints@medicalschemes.co.za. Opmed is exempt from the Medical Schemes Act, so ask the Council first whether it can take a complaint about Opmed.
