Consumer Protection Act complaints go to the NCC, whose contact centre is 012 065 1940 and whose enquiries email is enquiries@thencc.org.za. The Consumer Protection Act No. 68 of 2008 (CPA) has no contact details of its own: it is enforced by the NCC, the national consumer regulator established under Section 85 of the Act.

The NCC is not the National Consumer Tribunal, which is a separate body, and it does not handle credit matters, which fall under the National Credit Act rather than the CPA.

Services and responsibilities

The NCC is the regulatory body established in terms of Section 85 of the Consumer Protection Act No. 68 of 2008. It promotes the resolution of disputes between consumers and suppliers and investigates alleged contraventions of the CPA.

Once you lodge a complaint, you receive an email notification each time it is escalated, until it is resolved. One reference number covers all the complaints on your profile.

Office and address information

The NCC is at Block C, South African Bureau of Standards Campus, 01 Dr. Lategan Road, Groenkloof, Pretoria. Office hours are 08h30 to 17h00, and the office is open to the public from 08h30 to 16h30.

Complaints and escalation

To lodge a CPA complaint:

  1. Try to resolve the dispute with the supplier first, and keep your proof of purchase and all correspondence.
  2. Create a profile at eservice.thencc.org.za using your email address and ID number, with your names exactly as they appear on your ID.
  3. Wait for an NCC agent to verify and approve the profile. You receive an email with your username and password.
  4. Log in and file the complaint. Give the date of the transaction, the date the dispute arose, proof of purchase, the steps you took to resolve it and your communication with the supplier.
  5. Track the status in your profile, or call 012 065 1940 and quote your reference number.

If you cannot register online, call the contact centre on 012 065 1940 with your ID book ready. An agent creates the profile for you and issues a unique reference number.
