Tracker Connect (Pty) Ltd lists the Polokwane office on the Tracker Offices tab of its Locate Us map, with 0860 111 321 as the contact number. Use it for office queries. For anything involving a stolen or hijacked vehicle, the emergency line comes first.

Reporting a theft or hijacking in Limpopo

Polokwane sits on the N1 about three hours from Beitbridge and within reach of Groblersbrug. A vehicle taken here can be at an international border before a day is out. Recovery is a race against that, and the race starts when you phone, not when you finish looking for the number.

So the practical advice is different from a metro. Report the road and the direction of travel before anything else: N1 north, R71 towards Tzaneen, R521 towards Alldays. The make and colour of the car matter far less to a recovery team than which corridor it is on.

Taking a tracked vehicle across the border

• Tell Tracker before you go. A unit crossing a border unannounced can trigger a theft alert and waste everyone’s time.
• Tell your insurer too. Many South African motor policies limit or exclude cover outside the country, or cover only named neighbouring states.
• If the vehicle is financed, you also need a cross-border letter from the bank that holds the title. Ask for it weeks ahead, not days.

Roadside assistance far outside town

Roadside assistance is 086 111 8729, also 24 hours. On the R33 or the R525 an hour outside town, a tow is a long tow, so when you phone, give a landmark or a kilometre marker rather than a street name, and say whether the vehicle is safely off the road. If you have no signal where you have stopped, walk to where you do before you make the call rather than after.

Where the other Tracker numbers go

• Client Support: 086 060 5040
• Local Contact Centre: 011 243 6605
• International Customer Contact Centre: 086 067 5747

Everything administrative, such as billing, changes of details, cancellation or a change of ownership, is better done through the topic form on tracker.co.za than by phone.

Getting a unit fitted in Polokwane

Fitment is done through independent fitment centres, which the Locate Us tool on tracker.co.za lists separately from Tracker’s own offices, including the ones serving Polokwane and the surrounding towns. Use the tool for the current name and number rather than an old listing, because these are independent businesses that join and leave the network.

Farms, game vehicles and heavy plant

A lot of Limpopo tracking is not a family car. Bakkies, farm vehicles, game-viewing vehicles, trailers and plant get stolen here too, and the cover and the recovery approach for them are not identical to a passenger car. If that is what you are insuring, say so at the quote stage and ask specifically what happens if the asset is on a farm rather than on a road, and whether a trailer or implement can be fitted at all.
