Capitec Bank deceased estates are handled by email at DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za, where you send every document to stop and close a deceased client’s account. For general questions, Capitec’s Client Care Centre is open 24 hours on 0860 10 20 43.

Capitec handles deceased clients’ accounts through this one mailbox. Search results sometimes show a different address starting with “CCS”; that version is not on Capitec’s live deceased estates page, so use DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za. For Capitec’s other numbers, see the main Capitec contact details page.

Official Capitec deceased estates route

Capitec’s deceased estates page asks families and executors to email all documents to DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za. This is the route to stop the account, request the Certificate of Balance and, later, have the funds paid out and the account closed.

If you need to talk to someone first, call the Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43 (24 hours), or +27 21 440 3580 from outside South Africa. The Client Care WhatsApp line, 067 418 9565, is available from 06:00 to 22:00, and general queries can go to ClientCareCentre@capitecbank.co.za.

What you need before contacting Capitec

  • A certified copy of the death certificate.
  • A certified copy of the deceased’s ID (front and back of a smart ID card).
  • Later: the Death Notice instruction from the Master’s Office.
  • Later: the Letter of Authority or Letter of Executorship, a certified ID of the Master’s Office representative or executor, and a certified confirmation letter for the nominated bank account, not older than 3 months.

Which letter you get depends on the size of the estate. Estates worth R250 000 or less get a Letter of Authority from the Master’s Office; larger estates get a Letter of Executorship. Capitec refers families to the Master’s Office information at justice.gov.za/master/deceased.html.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. Stop the account: email a certified copy of the death certificate and a certified copy of the ID to DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za.
  2. Take the death certificate to the Master’s Office to get a Death Notice instruction, then email it to DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za.
  3. Capitec issues a Certificate of Balance. This can take up to 24 hours once the Death Notice is emailed.
  4. Submit the Certificate of Balance to the Master’s Office to get a Letter of Authority or a Letter of Executorship.
  5. Email the letter, the certified ID of the Master’s Office representative or executor, and the certified bank confirmation letter for the nominated account to DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za.

Once Capitec has all the documents, the transfer to the nominated account and the closure of the account can take up to 14 working days.

Escalation route

Capitec does not publish a separate escalation line for deceased estates. If a step is taking longer than the times above, follow up by email on DeceasedQueries@capitecbank.co.za or call the Client Care Centre on 0860 10 20 43, and keep copies of everything you sent.

For other banks, browse the banking and finance hub or the banking directory B to C listings.
